Renewable Energy in Michigan (REM) is a non-profit organization that works to expand solar and geothermal energy in Michigan that will save you money from high utility electric rates, promote a clean environment and fight climate change.

REM is the sister organization to the Great Lakes Renewable Energy Association (GLREA), an organization that educates the public about the benefits of renewable energy and works to enact policies that expand renewable energy in Michigan.

These are very difficult undertakings, because DTE and Consumers Energy oppose these policies because they want to maintain their monopoly status and want to continue selling their very expensive utility electricity.  DTE and Consumers Energy don't want people and business to have a choice on how to purchase electricity.  We think that all people and business should have the right to be able to choose where they get their electricity from.

Michigan has the highest utility rates in the Upper Midwest!

So help us enact new policies by sending emails.

Dues are tax deductible because GLREA is a non-profit orgnaization.

Contact Your Legislator to Urge them to Help Reject DTE's Proposal

DTE has submitted a Proposal to the MI Public Service Commission to raise electric rates by another $351 million and to take away the rights of homeowners and small business of installing their own solar system to generate their own electricity. Renewable Energy in Michigan (REM) is working to get the MI Public Service Commssion to reject DTE's proposal. But we need your help!

DTE is proposing to reduce the amount they pay solar owners for the extra solar electricity that solar owners export back to the electric grid. Currently DTE pays 8 cents per kilowatt-hour but now they only want to pay 3.5 cents. In addition DTE wants to force solar owners to pay two new monthly fees called Demand Charges.  DTE's goal is to eliminate the solar market in Michigan by undermining the financial benefit of owning solar.  DTE's goal is to eliminate any competition for lower costing electricity and force all homeowners and buisness to buy its really expensive electricity.

Please send an email to your State Representative and State Senator to ask them to contact Dan Scripps, the Chairman of the Michigan Public Service Commission, to urge him to reject DTE's Proposal.

If you live in Consumers Energy territory, if DTE is successful then you know that Consumers Energy will ask for the same 3.5 cents and new solar fees from the MI Public Service Commission.  Therefore, we are asking all solar supporters to contact their Legislators and tell them to contact the Michigan Public Service Commission to urge them to say no to DTE's Proposal.  Thanks!
