Renewable Energy in Michigan (REM) is a non-profit organization that works to expand solar and geothermal energy in Michigan that will save you money from high utility electric rates, promote a clean environment and fight climate change.

REM is the sister organization to the Great Lakes Renewable Energy Association (GLREA), an organization that educates the public about the benefits of renewable energy and works to enact policies that expand renewable energy in Michigan.

These are very difficult undertakings, because DTE and Consumers Energy oppose these policies because they want to maintain their monopoly status and want to continue selling their very expensive utility electricity.  DTE and Consumers Energy don't want people and business to have a choice on how to purchase electricity.  We think that all people and business should have the right to be able to choose where they get their electricity from.

Michigan has the highest utility rates in the Upper Midwest!

So help us enact new policies by sending emails.

You can further help by becoming a Member of the Great Lakes Renewable Energy Association (GLREA). To join click here https://www.2glrea.org/membership and then scroll down and click on the yellow ‘Become a GLREA Member’ button and then follow the directions. Dues are tax deductible because GLREA is a non-profit orgnaization.

Send a Comment to the MI Public Service Commission to Urge them to Reject DTE's Proposal

The Michigan Public Service Commission is reviewing a Proposal by DTE in Rate Case U-20836. DTE wants to reduce the amount of money they have to pay solar owners who export extra solar electricity back to to the grid. DTE also is proposing to charge two new monthly fees called 'Demand Charges' on solar owners in an effort to undermine the economics of owning solar. DTE's goal is to eliminate the solar market in Michigan for homeowners and small business. Please send an email to the Michigan Public Service Commissioners telling them to reject DTE's proposal!  Thanks!
